Warm Chai Bourbon
I love hot, strong chai latte. I can and do drink them year round. If I have a cold, I’ll drink tea; but my preference is a chai tea. It’s the mixture of different flavors and it is sweet and depending on how much star anise is in the mix, it can be a bit savory. With the rainy Saturday evening, the kiddo asleep, I decided to relax into the evening with two of my faves – hot chai and bourbon.
As ambitious as I am in creating recipes, I know my limits and trying to make chai tea from scratch is one such limit. I have chai tea bags and chai concentrate. For this yummy cocktail, I went with the concentrate as it has more of the spice punch I like. I heated the concentrate to simmer, removed from heat and added 2.5 oz of bourbon. I went with a higher proof bourbon because the chai can handle it. To give it a little punch, and because I realize sometimes, I go overboard - I frothed some cream. One word – delicious!
The cinnamon and star anise were for the picture. I left them in long enough for the picture and removed. Star anise can overwhelm the nose and the taste, so I quickly removed it after I took my picture.
My new favorite toddy.
Try it and let me know what you think.
