Orange Clove Old Fashioned

I am forcing myself into the Christmas spirt. This is the second Christmas season under a pandemic, and it is wearing on me, ya know? It doesn’t help that it is 70 degrees F outside either. I mean, really, I need some cold weather, a hint of snow and hot cocoa. I have NONE of that. None.

So, I’m struggling to find some holiday cheer. The 5-year-old is ALL in. He turns on the tree lights every morning and is reluctant to turn it off when he goes to bed. Thank goodness for him, or I may be a scrooge this year.

Garnish with a twist of orange and cloves, of course ;-)

With that as my backdrop, I decided to try to make something to nudge me further along the Christmas spirit – Orange Clove Old Fashioned. I used equal parts water and clover honey, simmer, add in 3 cloves and the peel of an orange. Scrape as much of the pith from the orange as possible. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes and cool. Then assemble an Old Fashioned. The clove honey syrup is delicious and sweet. A little bit of clove goes a long way and I didn’t want to overpower my Old Fashioned. Hence my use of only three whole cloves. If you want more clove flavor, add a handful.

How you doing out there, Brown Girls? Y’all alright?

Cheers,
