Mom’s Old-Fashioned Review

Brown Girls, my mother who is not quite a teetotaler, but really close, was out with her book club and ordered an Old Fashioned – YES! I am going to make her a bourbon drinker yet.

Without further ado my Mom’s take on her Old Fashioned.

Full disclosure, I’m more of a chardonnay drinker; but when your daughter makes delicious bourbon cocktails and curates bourbon experiences as her business, you drink bourbon.

Old Fashioned

It’s the start of the holiday season and all that it entails – decorating, the hustle and bustle of shopping and social engagements - fun. Kicking off the activities this month was my book club’s holiday gathering. While I didn’t love the book, I was eager for the company of good friends and try a new restaurant.

Kimberly Elise swears that Old Fashioneds are the most approachable bourbon cocktail, if done well. I saw one on the menu and thankfully, this one was well done. Made with bullet bourbon, it was smooth. The orange added a nice balance to the cocktail, and it was sweet, which I liked. They used vanilla brown sugar which is intriguing and delicious. Another interesting twist was the use of bitters – they used two: Angostura and spiced cranberry bitters. The combo of bitters tempered the sweetness and also added another layer to the drink. I need to see if Kimberly Elise has spiced cranberry bitters, I liked them that much.

I’m not sure how often I’ll be writing a review, but this one was quick and fun.

Take care Brown Girls and thank you for reading.
