PBJ in a Glass

This is going to be really good or damn awful

A beautiful Sunday during the pandemic means a lot of time on the deck. There aren’t stores or errands to run because we take this lock down seriously. On a recent Sunday, G, the young prince and I stayed outside all day listening to Alexa.

Don’t knock it til you try it!

I’ve been thinking of what to do with this peanut butter whiskey, beyond drinking it neat. I like to tinker with things and this one begged for me to come up with something yummy. I couldn’t decide if I wanted something adult – a la a with a splash of something like chocolate bitters to maybe do a peanut butter cup or something kid-like, thinking peanut butter and jelly using a fruit based bitters. If I’m being completely transparent, I was more of a peanut butter and fluff kind of girl.  But I digress…

Since I gave my chocolate bitters to G, by default, I went with the peanut butter and jelly concoction.  I went inside to experiment with new cocktails and stumbled across this little wonder. Well stumble isn’t the right word.

Great minds think alike because my last box from my subscription service had an interesting drink Living Proof which had an odd list of ingredients – pumpkin seed butter, strawberry preserves, lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt. Rather than stay in the kitchen and tinker on a recipe, I decided to try it out and if it tasted terribly, I’d go in and create something else.

NOTE: Add the preserves and nut butter to a shaker and 2 cubes of ice and then shake to break down the preserves a bit.  Then add the bourbon, lemon juice and more ice to the shaker and shake until chilled.  Double strain into a glass.  Voila!

Double straining makes a world of difference.

Subscription services are great when you want exposure to new type of liquor or interesting flavor combinations. Though when you are focused on one type of spirit – ya, know like 2 Brown Girls & Bourbon 😊, it can be hard because not every month is dedicated to bourbon or whiskey.

For the bourbon purist, I know this cocktail is doing way too much. And it is but, it is so worth it. For a small group to try something new.

Cheers,
