Shining Star Anise

I love bourbon and Ginger Ale. I am not however a fan of ginger beer. I don’t know what it is – perhaps the overly fermented taste of it. Though I like kombucha, but I can’t put my finger on it.  Whatever it is, it is…and then I tried ginger beer in a recipe with bourbon. And now I say I like ginger beer… with bourbon 😊

It doesn’t matter the bourbon or the brand of ginger beer, adding ginger beer to a cocktail gives it the bubbles you sometimes need.

I recently had some dried star of anise – which is very random and odd for me. I’m not a huge fan of black licorice; but thought I would try it in bourbon. Placing the dried fruit in the drink was interesting to the nose and had a mild effect on the taste. I added ginger beer and a splash of bitters and it turned into something delightful that I drank all night long.

Ginger beer, my staple for zhushing up drinks. What’s yours?

Cheers,
