Woodford Reserve Sassafras and Sorghum Bitters
Or my Saturday was busy as hell and I finally have a moment to sit.
This Saturday started with my toddler waking up at 2 o’clock wet and crying out because he was wet. I mean down to his socks – and yeah, he sleeps in socks – wet. I got him into relatively clean pjs and into my bed, only to be awakened ever 45 minutes with a foot in my kidney. Alas, at 5 am, my kidneys were crying UNCLE and I got up. The treadmill of life began – the dog needed to go out, my coffee was thankfully brewing when my feet hit the floor and I needed to get us ready for the day ahead. Swim lessons, children’s concert at the symphony, it was a nice day, so we went for a long walk and on and on and on. Oh and I’m leaving to go out of town for work, so I need to wash clothes and pack up the kiddo and dog to take to the Parentals.
Save for the quiet hum of the washing machine and my dog, Scout LaRue, snoring, the house is blissfully quiet! Whoosah.
But we’re here to talk about bourbon but I needed to give some context. I earned this drink. Normally after the day I’ve had I’d go with the tried and true, @BasilHayden; but this time I was feeling a bit adventurous. I had @WoodfordReserve with their Sassafras and Sorghum Bitters. This is the second bitters of the five pack. The first one left me feeling flat, but this one keeps me sipping and pondering. I went in to the tasting with zero expectations. In fact, I thought this was going to be a throw-away of the five. I mean I like root beer soda but sassafras ain’t root beer and what exactly is sorghum? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Ok then. Let me say that I LOVE this bitter. The Sassafras and sorghum bitter enhances the bourbon taste. It subtly brings forward the smokiness and earthiness of the drink and I am here for it.
Cheers
