2 Brown Girls & Bourbon

WhistlePig Straight Rye 10

I enjoy rye. Like a lot. I love the spice, and yet I don't know if I would call them complex. I typically just taste spice and it all tastes the same - good.

I was at a bourbon tasting recently and WhistlePig Straight Rye 10 was one of the pours. Having never tried it before, I was intrigued. I like WhistlePig’s bourbons’ but they aren’t a go-to. On the nose, the Rye is fruity and some alcohol, though not a lot. The color is a warm amber, not too dark. A nice, honeyed amber. It looks warm and inviting. 10 years in a barrel and 100% rye mashbill - temptation in a glass.

My first sip was spice. A lot of spice and while that’s not a bad thing; it was more than I expected. First thought - intriguing. My sips were good and the fruit seemed to come out the more I tasted. I definitely picked up orange and maybe another citrus or perhaps pineapple. I’m not sure, but another fruit was coming through. Maybe I needed a larger glass or perhaps a second! 😉

As I was tasting, I definitely kept thinking about this in an Old Fashioned. I bet it would be delicious. So stay tuned because I’m buying a bottle and making Old Fashioneds. Oh yeah, this is going to be good.

Cheers,
