Jalapeno Strawberry Smash

Another batch of tasty strawberries was begging me to make another cocktail. This time I took inspiration from a salad I made with sliced strawberries and jalapenos.

I’m hit or miss with savory bourbon cocktails and when I do drink them; it’s usually during cooler temps; but in the time of Covid, I do what makes me happy. So I tried it. This one is a keeper! Long story short, the sweetness of the strawberries tempers the heat of the jalapenos, and the bourbon rounded out the smash. Tasty!

I rimmed the glass with the jalapeno to give it an added kick, completely optional. I intentionally went light on the jalapeno slices because I didn’t want it to overpower the drink and I wasn’t sure if this would work. Plus, who has time to waste good bourbon. ☹ My first sip was really good. I probably could have added 4 or 5 slices of jalapeno: but again, fine line between heat and overpowering the rest of the drink. I think you need to see how sweet the strawberries are – if they are really sweet, you probably can get away with more jalapeno. Also, if you can’t take a lot of heat, you can remove the seeds from the slices, though I did not. Balance is what we’re striving toward.

My second sip was just as good; but I wanted to lighten it up for the summer months. I added a splash of ginger beer. Perfection.

I think this might work as a batch cocktail. Next girls get together I’m going to try it.
