Cooke & Savage: Store Blend

We were on spring break when I randomly googled bourbon stores. I found one not far from our day of activities and took the family on a bourbon adventure. With a completely open mind, nothing I was in search of, I walked in and just looked at bottles. I read the notes, talked with the staff and enjoyed the moment. I love talking with bourbon drinkers. I find my knowledge of bourbon grows as I hear why they like what they do and don’t like about bottles.

As my mental checklist of bottles kept growing, I started to pare down my ‘ooh that sounds interesting,’ I couldn’t buy everything that was interesting, and I certainly couldn’t transport it home safely – so I moved from interesting to interesting and yummy. I landed on a black label and a bottle blended by the store with Savage & Cooke. The cask strength, 113 proof bottle has a blend of Grenache, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is quite tasty.

This is a big bourbon (for me anyway) at 113 proof it is very gentle on the nose with stone fruits, cherry and a bit of honey thrown in. What I smelled, I tasted. I love when that happens. I added a few drops of water to my glass and it opened up tremendously with the honey becoming more prominent.

I’m all for trying something new. Love to in fact, but I usually don’t jump to the top shelf of a price point when I do. I’m glad I did.

Cheers,
