Legent
I stumbled across this bottle and decided to give it a whirl.
My first taste review:
The nose – not sure if I’m getting caramel or toffee. I do get a lot of alcohol when I first smell it. Even after I sniff it a few times, the alcohol remains front and center. There is something there that I can’t put my finger on that smells quite lovely.
The taste – warming with a good mouth feel.
Not being able to identify the flavor was driving me bonkers, so I did some research. @Legent has a fascinating story . Read up on it; but more importantly I would have NEVER figured it out. This isn’t your standard Kentucky bourbon because it is partially finished in sherry and wine casks! I know right.
So with that extra bit of knowledge, I decided to wait a few days and taste it again.
The nose – again, this leads with the alcohol. Not as strongly as the first taste; but still very much in your face. I then picked up heavy caramel and baking spices. I like both in my bourbon.
The taste – is complex and has a long finish. I still can’t figure out what I’m smelling and it’s impacting my tasting. I’m literally all over the map. One sip I really like it and the next, I’m ‘meh’. It’s driving me nuts. Sometimes knowledge isn’t a good thing because I keep trying to taste for wine or sherry.
The verdict – decent. It seems to be a sipper cocktail; though I need to see how it does with cocktails.
