Cardamom 360

The Queen of Spices, Cardamom, is one of my favorites and I wanted to try it with another favorite – bourbon.

I first tried cardamom in Puerto Rico where it is plentiful. I was immediately smitten by it. It is at once savory and slightly sweet and heavily aromatic. I bought some to make bitters – more about that later - and I needed something to do with the remainder. And here we are.

I came up with the Cardamom 360. Let me say, if you are on the fence with Cardamom’s taste, this is not for you. Lol. It is bourbon surrounded by cardamom bitters and cardamom simple syrup. For the simple syrup I used equal parts water and honey and a palm full of cardamom pods. Side note: I also used the cardamom simple syrup in hot tea and it was yummy. They added a bit of a chai taste to my black tea.

The drink was a bit one dimensional; so I added a dash of black lemon bitters and a winner was born.
