Bourbon Berry Smash

Berry Smash

A drink I had at the Richmond International Airport which has been my home away from home without the comforts of home. A tasty treat made of Knob Creek, Domaine de Canton, lemon, and blackberry syrup with mint. The delicious smell of Domaine de Canton, a mixer of ginger and honey, was a welcomed surprise. I sat back in my chair relaxed waiting for the flight I take to Atlanta every week.

My mind drifted to the taste of this drink. You know that sound you make when you press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and then let go. Yep, that was me. You know you can taste sound. Stay focused Ryeder! Stay focused. I was reminded of life and its ups and downs because like life there will be sour and bitter but sweet times along the journey.  I had to shift my mind! Change my perspective! I decided to focus on the name of this drink, and I fixated on the word “smash”. The definition of this word as a verb means crush or breaking of an item that falls into pieces under collision or pressure. For example, my crazy work travel schedule, constant hotel stays, and Covid 19 worries. This is a collision waiting to happen because of the pressure. SMASH! Then I remembered perspective is the key. I am going to focus on the word “smash” in this drink name as an adjective. That definition is outstanding! My life is truly outstanding! Sipping and smiling as I think of my friends, family, two busy grandchildren, frequent flyer miles, hotel points and free car rentals that I am racking up!

Later Divas.
