Small Batch Delight
Uncle Nearest 1884
By now, Nearest Green’s story and the Uncle Nearest brand of Tennessee whiskey is well known – thank goodness. My state recently started selling the small batch 1884 – thank goodness.
In a word – delightful. It is a good sipping whiskey. The color is a beautiful amber that reminds me of a favorite piece of jewelry. It’s warm and glows from within and makes me happy. My initial whiff brings sweetness, maybe some honey to the nose. I definitely get some baked goods undertones, but I can’t put my finger on it.
My bottle was curated by Nearest Green relative V. Eady-Butler. My first sip is neat. There is a bit of a punch to it with 93% proof. I usually enjoy a lower proof sipping whiskey, so I decided to drink it neat for a couple of days. Day two was less of a punch, and as a sipping whiskey it totally works. After a couple of days, I decided to add a splash of water. It mellows the taste quite a bit and there is far less alcohol on the nose - I like that aspect. It also cut down some of the sweetness in the taste overall, that I don’t think I like.
Final verdict – delic. Day 2 brought out all types of yummy flavors and I adjusted to the higher proof. I will be adding this to my rotation.
Cheers,
