Tres Leches Bourbon Cocktail
Texting with my sister
I don’t often knock it out of the park the first time I make a new cocktail. I like to tinker with a recipe or try variations. But this time, I humbly say - I did that.
Tres Leches Bourbon Cocktail
I’m not a big fan of Tres Leches cake. A forkful is usually all I have from my sister’s plate. The cake is too moist - it’s a consistency thing and it’s too sweet. I have a terrible sweet tooth, so that’s saying a lot.
But the stars aligned:
It’s Cinco de Mayo and why do Margaritas and tequila always come to mind
I need content
I love a challenge
So when my sister said she loved Tres Leches cake, I kid you not, it all came together. The aligned stars were bright!
I knew the ingredients of the cake that I could put into my cocktail; but I wasn’t sure of what the proportions should be. I was open to the type of bourbon to use. I literally was going to go into the “lab” my kitchen and start. And so, I did.
I started out with a 1:1 ratio of all of the ingredients. I liked it, a lot. I added the bourbon and I LOVED it. The sweetness of the condensed milk will overpower a lower proof bourbon. You need a BIG bourbon. I went with the 114 proof @Noah’s Mill which has a lot of baking spice on the nose.
With it’s sweetness, this isn’t a drink that I could drink all night; but it would be great in batches. Or, if you prefer to drink your dessert - this is it.
Try this. Tell me what you think. I will gladly accept your thanks and reply ‘I know, right!?!’
Cheers,
