Pretty Ice Cubes
But the drink required CPR.
If you’ve visited this site before now, you know I love a pretty cocktail. I stumbled across Butterfly Pea flower tea* ice cubes. I knew I had to incorporate them into cocktail. The vibrant blue hue is beautiful. They look like gemstones. And this Brown Girl loves a colored gem.
I had visions in my head of the striking drink with the delicious flavor.
My reality was about as far from that as possible. Ha! Now when I hit it out of the park with a cocktail; I share that – proudly. So I figured I’d share equally how EPIC this fail was. This might be on the hall of fame list of my fails.
Long story short, pure Butterfly Pea Flower tea is not sold locally, I would need to find it online. But my creative juices were flowing and I was impatient. I didn’t want to wait for it to ship. So I switched the tea to what I could find - Butterfly Pea flower tea and Hibiscus. Close enough, right? Wrong, it was the death knell in my cocktail. The hibiscus overpowers the Butterfly Pea in both taste AND color. UGH. In my haste to make what was in my head; I didn’t fully think through the ingredients in the tea. My ice cubes are still pretty but I don’t like the taste of the tea. And therefore, my cocktail was bleh.
I had to do a lot of work on my cocktail to make it drinkable. Far too much to share with you. It’s the summer and I don’t want an overly fussy drink. Know, I took one for the team; but the team has spoken – I will NOT be making this concoction again. I can’t even call it a cocktail. The remaining ice cubes have been lovingly embraced by my kitchen sink.
Some drinks are a homerun and some, well, are not.
Cheers!
