2 Brown Girls & Bourbon

Rose Julep

I recently participated in a virtual cooking class that was a lot of fun and the family participated. The meal was something similar to what I make; but the recipe for the cocktail involved rose petals. I was intrigued and wanted to dive into the cocktail; but because I was on zoom, with my camera on, I followed along with the class.

Once I got the bulk of the meal under way, I started to focus on the drink. And because I like to tinker with recipes, I used bourbon versus vodka and added some orange juice to the rose simple syrup. WHOA!

Long story short, this drink is amazing. I mean it is really good. It reminds me of a mint julep, minus the mint. The rose syrup added a subtleness to the nose and a cute hue to the drink. Bonus that it is easy to make.

Now I will say a lower proof bourbon is your best bet for this one. A higher proof will overpower the rose flavor and scent. But a 90-proof max will serve you well. I used @Maker’s Mark, cause that’s what I had on hand. The fruity notes of Maker’s paired really well with the rose syrup.

This drink is so tasty and easy that I will likely consume it a year-round versus seasonal.
