Orange Blossom Cubes

I was in a creative mood. Thinking about my Kamala and how I could make zing. It needed to up to the ‘Classics with a Melanin Twist’ label and it wasn’t. It was good; but not amazing. I want amazing.

I wanted to stay with tea and bourbon. I think tea brings out the baking spices in bourbons without overwhelming. As I was riffing in my mind. I changed the tea to orange flavor, let it steep far longer than I would if I was drinking it and added some demerara syrup. Once cooled, I added it to ice trays, remember those? I have a bunch from when I made baby food for the young prince – yeah, I was that Mom. Don’t judge me. Voila, the classic was updated once again and NOW lives up to its name – Classic with a Melanin Twist!

Orange tea ice cubes, so good

If you aren’t a fan of tea, this isn’t the drink for you. You can definitely taste it. The demerara syrup adds the sweetener to the Old Fashioned and balances the over steeped tea. Great balance of flavors and because you know I love bubbles in my cocktails I added a splash of club soda – swoon.

Flavored ice cubes require some planning, but I think making a batch and having them on hand is great. I could also use these for batch cocktails.

Cheers,
