Japanese Old Fashioned

Ummm, WOW!

I recently went out to dinner with a gaggle of girlfriends. We went to a trendy new spot, and they had an interesting mix of cocktails. The Japanese Old Fashioned looked intriguing. I’ve yet to taste a Japanese whisky and that alone was a drawn; however, this cocktail had lemongrass and ginger bitters. The intrigue factor went up exponentially.

The drink was made with Suntory Toki Whisky. And it was delicious.

I’ll admit when it arrived at the table, I thought they MUST have forgotten the whiskey. I mean the color was barely there. I would describe the color as pale yellow, like sunflower oil. Where is the brown liquor? I was tempted to google the whisky but decided I could do that when I got home. I wanted to taste, enjoy (or not) and judge it without deconstructing it. Well, 2 out of 3 isn’t bad, I already deconstructed it when it came to the table.

It smelled delicious. The lemongrass hit the nose first followed by a hint of ginger. Like I said, I was intrigued, so I took a sip. It was delicious! Sweeter than what I typically drink. But this cocktail is good. The type of cocktail that you’d drink a couple before you realized you were buzzing. 😉

I’m going back to the restaurant soon for a birthday celebration and I can’t wait to have another!
