Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is a premium expression of the iconic Tennessee whiskey brand. It is made from the same mashbill as the standard Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, but it undergoes a charcoal filtering. I’m not sure what that does to the taste, but it’s an interesting tidbit nevertheless. The whiskey is bottled at 94 proof, so bigger than my standard pour.

The nose of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is rich and inviting, with notes of caramel, cinnamon, and a hint of spice. It’s a big taste, sweet with long legs (the flavor lingers). The color is warm and dark, like it’s been aged a while.

I let it sit for a half an hour or so and came up with some bananas – I think and vanilla. This will be very good in a cocktail. There is complexity in the pour and I think I like it. I need to sip some more before I decide if I would have this on my bar full time. For now, I’m going to enjoy the bottle. 😉
