Basil Hayden’s Spiced Honey Ginger

I stumbled across this gem of a cocktail on the internet and um yeah, this one is going in the classics file. I mean really, what’s not to love – my favorite bourbon, honey syrup and ginger liqueur. Ginger liqueur may seem random, or maybe not. But I like ginger and I have a bottle of it; so when I get inspired or find a recipe that requires it, I have it on hand. I have yet to be disappointed when using it in a cocktail – just saying.

Basil Hayden’s Spiced Honey Ginger struck me as a riff on a Brown Derby, maybe because it uses honey simple syrup. Whatever the reason, I’m cool with it because I’ve riffed on a Brown Derby cocktail a time or two and have always loved the variation. This one used Bittercube Jamaican No.2 Bitters. I ordered it with fingers crossed because of my love hate relationship with bitters is well documented. 😉 But this one is nothing but love. Grapefruit, hibiscus, clove and ginger along with some wonderful other spices has my creativity bouncing all over the place. The bitters are grapefruit forward – no wonder the Brown Derby is screaming to me.

Bonus, this could easily be made ahead and would be wonderful for a springtime tea. Oh, umm, I see a deck get together happening soon.

Cheers,
