Attorney Privilege

Orgeat (pronounced "ohr-zhat") syrup is an almond-flavored syrup commonly used in classic and tropical cocktails. I’m intrigued and have been for a while: I love almonds, I’m always looking for an interesting addition to my cocktails and I’ve seen it in a number of recipes. But and this is a big one - I’m trying hard not to purchase random mixers that I use once and have 9/10ths of the bottle remaining.

So when I spotted a bottle Orgeat syrup on a friend’s bar, I asked to take some home.

Given my finite amount of Orgeat, I wasn’t inclined to create something from scratch. My trial and error with cocktails can involve a lot of error to get something palatable. There are several recipes for Attorney Privilege and all of them are basically the same: a couple of ounces of bourbon, 2-3 dashes of @Angostura Bitters and a ½ ounce or Orgeat.

This is close enough to an Old Fashioned that it was tasty, but I didn’t love it, nor did I taste the complexity that others mentioned.

Here’s where I net out – if you have other recipes that call for Orgeat, then you’ve likely made this cocktail before. I think the Attorney Privilege is ok. If you have the fixings for it; then you can make an Old Fashioned, which I LOVE.

Tell me what you think? Worth investing in a bottle or nah?
